Red Boots Records Story Carla
started writing kid's songs while teaching music at her children's Montessori
school. She wanted her students to participate in music by having them exercise
their birthright of singing out loud and singing often. She knew that it was essential
that she had quality songs that got them singing and kept them asking for more.
As she began searching for the right combination of quality songs she found that
the songs that really held her students' interest were the same songs that she
had sung as a child. She wanted to mix the old and with the new, but she struggled
to find quality, contemporary music. Carla
realized that there was a void, and she began to fill it by writing songs herself.
Soon her classes were asking to sing her original songs again and again. Children
who had been silent started singing. Her students were telling their parents how
much fun they had at music class. Parents were telling her that their kids had
turned into singers and when they got together with their classmates away from
school they were singing Carla's songs over and over. The mini-Montessori music
revolution had begun. Her students were no longer treating music as if it were
a spectator sport. They were making her songs, and their own voices, an active
part of their childhood. Carla
then began exploring the idea of making her songs available to more children,
and recruited her husband Ed to work on the project. The result was the creation
of her first CD, Sing the Sun. As they started the project they searched for a
recording label with which to affiliate. The
search for a label yielded similar results to Carla's search for quality, contemporary
kid's music. While some kids' labels exist, they typically support a single artist.
They also discovered that the rapidly growing children's music category is dominated
by Disney, and while Disney is generally considered a good and kid-friendly company,
the diversity of their offering is limited. So in keeping with Carla's decision
to write her own music, they decided to start their own record label and Red Boots
Records was born. Red
Boots Records exists to make kids and families stronger and happier through song.
Its first project is the release and support of Carla's first CD, Sing the Sun.
It will also support two additional projects that Carla has in creative development;
one that will feature songs to help kids with parents that are absent due to long
military engagements, and another that will help teach children moral reasoning
using songs based on Aesop's Fables. Red Boots Records is also seeking to support
artists that have talent and desire to help all kids to sing out loud.
